Former African Soccer Queen, Cynthia Uwak has been signed by German side, Saarbruecken. Her excellent performance for her Finish Club, Kuopio MF(KMF) attracted the Germany club which immediately handed her a new contract after monitoring her performances in Finland for a season.
The German club went through tough negotiation with KMF before an agreement was reached some days ago, and she has completed the club’s rigorous camp test and physical examination
Although details of the contract has not been made public africansportsdigest.com discovered that KMF released the player because of the huge financial gain made by the club in the transfer.
However, KMF are regretting losing Uwak to Saarbruecken as they are finding it difficult replacing the mercurial striker.Since they have also lost out of the Karattua Clubs Championship, KMF are fighting for a trophy in the League as well as building the team for next season.
KMF president, Harri Tirkkonen, who is happy with the money they have earned from Uwak’s transfer is banking on their strong youth academy: “I am happy we have an excellent youth programme in this team, therefore we’ll beef up the team with young players in our youth team. They are very good.”
“Kuopio strong junior production with a record of success over the years has given us hope for a better tomorrow. We now boast of a growing number of home groomed young players from the academy,” said Tirkkonen
The Nigerian international striker started her professional career in France with French side, Olympic Lyonnais before joining FC United in Finland where KMF bought her over using their strong financial backing.
In 2006 after her explosive outings for Nigeria in the African Women Championship and World Cup,Uwak was named African Women Player of the Year by the Confederation of African Football, CAF.
