With his timely strike which resulted in Everton whipping Hull City 4-0 in the English League Cup on Wednesday, Yakubu Aiyegbeni says his ready to return to his country’s national team.
The Nigerian striker was not invited for recent World Cup qualifying games due injury which he cupped last season, besides the coach was not showing much interest in the striker. But with Nigeria on the verge of missing the 2010 World Cup billed for South Africa, the coach, Shuaibu Amodu has no option but to use any available player.
“It was great opening scoring ion the match and we ended up scoring more goals and winning by a good margin. I want to be in the national team too, perhaps, we can change the bad situation now for the best. We can’t afford to miss the World Cup,” said Aiyegbeni
Ayegbeni Yakubu opened the scoring in the 11th, with Jo doubling the lead in the 20th and Dan Gosling making it 3-0 in the 24th. Leon Osman finished off the scoring in the 57th minute.
Nigeria are facing difficulties after the 2-2 draw with Tunisia in Abuja, which may lead to their failure to qualify, since the Carthage Eagles are now leading their group with better points.
