Nigeria’s Bayelsa United goalkeeper, Bassey Akpan has confirmed his invitation to the Super Eagles for this weekend’s World Cup qualifying match against Mozambique.
Akpan will replace injured Dickson Etuhu of Fulham. The Akwa Ibom born player was a first choice goalkeeper for the home based Eagles and played for the Eaglets and Flying Eagles before this elevation to the senior team.
Africansportsdigest.com learnt from Akpan that he has already been informed by the football authorities, but refused to give details.
“Etuhu will not be part of the team against Mozambique because of injury. His place will now be taken up by Bassey,” confirmed top Super Eagles official Emmanuel Attah.
Officials though would not comment on the availability of England-based Joseph Yobo and John Mikel Obi.
Chelsea midfielder Obi has been sidelined by an ankle injury, while Yobo has been reported to be nursing a thigh strain and did not feature for Everton at the weekend.
