Costa Rica Are Champions in Fans’ Heart

By Chigozie Chukwuleta in Enugu

For their excellence play, Costa Ricans have become the toast of Enugu centre at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Championship holding in Nigeria, although they did not beat their New Zealand counterparts. The fleet footed side entertained the Enugu fans beyond expectation that every of their colourful moves was applauded.

The Costa Rica coach, Juan Diego Samuel said they need to talk to the players and see the best way to improve, since scoring of goals is the only way of qualifying for the next round.

“We play good football, but we need to win our matches too. The only thing that will keep us in this competition is goals. And we have to improve on our strike force,” said Samuel.

He told africansportsdigest.com that the lone point garnered in the match will help them push forward since they were not defeated.

However, the coach of New Zealand Stephen Cain said he was satisfied with the result which was better than losing as playing against Costa Rica was a difficult task.

“I admire their team. It was a tough game for my players, but we thank God for scaling through with a point. It’s more honourable than losing.”
