Nigerian Girls Win Award in Finland

Two Nigerian Female players, Juliana Bawa and Mimi Sanusi have distinguished themselves in the Finish Women League third division with different meritorious awards.

The players, who played for Vaan JS of Finland in the concluded season besides guiding their club to gain promotion to the second division, also came top in the end of year award ceremony held at in Finland.

VJS as the club are popularly known won the Gold medal trophy after emerging winners of the 2009 season Division three league which ended in November, and decided to honour the players.

Juliana Bawa, who hails from Niger State in Nigeria, was adjudged as the team’s player of the season. She received a gold trophy for her effort, while Mimi Sanusi, a one time member of the Nigeria U-17 Female team was honoured as the team’s highest goal scorer.

Sanusi told africansportsdigest.com in Finland that she thank God for the successful season: “All I am yearning for is a call up to the National team for the Nations Cup in South Africa. I do hope to contribute my quarter to the successful of our national team.”

Bawa also wants a national team invitation saying that she has proved that she is a good player and do have a bright future.

Others recognized by the club included Finnish players, Most Improved player, Anu Nuutilainen, Best goalkeeper, Elina Mukala and Best rookie of the season, Minja Raudoskoski.


VJS chalked up 49 points from 22 matches played and scored 86 goals to emerge champions.
