Abou Diaby Eyes World Cup Shirt

France international and Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby said on Tuesday he is determined to earn a spot in France’s World Cup squad and will do “everything to deserve it.”

Diaby, 23, has made only two appearances for Les Bleus since his debut in March 2007, but his improved run of form with Arsenal could help make him a more viable option in the middle of the pitch for France manager Raymond Domenech.

“I would love to be able to show what I am worth and my qualities with this [France] shirt.” Diaby said in Le Parisien. “The World Cup represents my aim. I will do everything to be a part of that.”

Diaby inherited a starting role when Denilson was injured earlier this season, and he has made the most of his chances scoring six times in 19 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League for the Gunners.

He also feels that France’s tactics suit his style of play as a central midfielder in a 4-3-3 system.
