Mikel Weep For Chelsea, Wants Rebirth

Nigerian International John Obi Mikel thinks his English Club, Chelsea still have a chance of salvaging their dwindling fortune especially with Wednesday game against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Mikel in answering if his team can get out of the dip said: “I think if we keep going like this then it is down to that. But we have to fight as a team, not as individuals.”

Chelsea’s defeat to Inter in the European Champions League prompted billionaire owner Roman Abramovich to address the squad at the club’s training ground last Wednesday.

“The owner just came to show support. We still have the Double to win and that’s what he came to assure us.

“He’s a football fan and understands but at the same time he wants us to put things right.”

The Champions League ouster invariably affected every Chelsea player, a situation they really want to correct by going all out for other title they are still in contention.

Said Mikel:”Everyone was shattered after losing to Inter, which is why he came over – to tell us to keep going. All we can do now is look forward to Wednesday and, hopefully, put things right.

“I think the belief, mentality and everything is still there. In football sometimes you have a bad spell and we are having ours right now. We made the mistakes so we have to repair it.

“We played a very good game in the first half yesterday but in the second we didn’t fight well enough.”
