WAFU Cup Starts April 8 in Abeokuta

Assurance has been given that the WAFU Cup competition holding in Nigeria next month will not be truncated as arrangements have been concluded for its kick off in Abeokuta, South West Nigeria on April 8.

According to Amos Adamu, the WAFU President, the re-launched WAFU Cup is long overdue and everything has been put in place to make it the best as well as a prelude to better things to come.

“The WAFU Cup was rested for a while which affected the enthusiasm that used to be associated with the competition in West Africa. All we want to do is to bring back the steam, and make it more rewarding and a high profile competition,” Adamu told africansportsdigest.com weekend in Abuja.

The WAFU Cup will involve eight teams namely, hosts-Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, Ivory Coast, Senegal and two others selected from Sierra Leone, Liberia and Gambia.

The event holds from April 8 to 18 according to the schedule made available to africansportsdigest.com editor in the USA. Other competition is the Women U-20 event holding in Warri.
