Ghana’s talisman, Andrea Ayew sent the house on fire when he scored in the 109 minute of the extra time to bring the Black Stars back to live and secured the hard fought 2-1 victory.

Ghana are meeting Zambia Chipolopolo in Bata Wednesday for a slot in the final. The semi-finals is scheduled for 8pm.

Joe Mensah opened scoring for Ghana in the 10th minute when he collected a pass from Asamoah Gyan before beating the Tunisian goalkeeper.

The game was even but the Tunisians fought back gamely and goal hero Sale Khelifa scored three minutes to the end of the first half to level up scores.

The second half was more technical as both teams traded cautiously searching for openings that never came until the match terminated at regular time.

Ayew, who send Ghana to the semi-final, said he is dreaming of the final.

“The Tunisians were difficult customers, after surviving today’s game we should be setting our minds on the final,” he said in a post match interview with africansportsdigest.com.

Two penalties from Wayne Rooney brought Manchester United back from the dead to draw 3-3 with Chelsea in a thriller at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts were riding high on a three-goal lead shortly before the hour mark, with an own goal from Jonny Evans and a David Luiz header either side of a Juan Mata stunner giving the Blues the advantage.

But United unleashed a second-half onslaught to rescue a point, with Rooney and Javier Hernandez the heroes for the Red Devils.

United went into the game having failed to win in their past nine visits to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, and looked to the returning duo of Rooney and Ashley Young to spearhead the attack along with Danny Welbeck.

Chelsea, meanwhile, handed a first start to new signing Gary Cahill, with skipper John Terry ruled out through injury.

United had the lions’ share of possession in the opening exchanges, and looked the more likely to break the deadlock as Rooney and Welbeck began to combine well up top.

The visitors were left to feel aggrieved with referee Howard Webb as they had two strong penalty appeals turned down within the space of 10 minutes.

First, Young went over under a nudge from Jose Bosingwa, then Welbeck was felled by Cahill as he ran through on goal, but neither decision went the way of the Red Devils.

The game remained fairly balanced towards the end of the half, but then out of the blue, the Blues struck the first blow.

Mata and Fernando Torres worked the space to the left of United’s penalty area, and Daniel Sturridge wove his way in behind Patrice Evra before running at the near post. His cut-back took a nick of David De Gea’s outstretched leg before striking Evans in the chest and nestling in the back of the net.

The goal brought the game to life, as Sturridge then tested De Gea from distance before a United onslaught closed out the first half, with Petr Cech denying Rooney on two occasions and Welbeck from close range.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side looked the most likely to grab the next goal, but just 40 seconds after the restart, Chelsea doubled their lead in emphatic style.

Torres got the ball in space on the right flank, and picked out Mata with a pin-point cross before the former Valencia man rifled home a sumptuous volley from inside the area.

And just five minutes later, Andre Villas-Boas’ side had a third, after Mata’s free-kick was flicked on by Luiz and turned home by Rio Ferdinand’s shoulder.

It was further insult to the England international, as he suffered a torrent of abuse from the home fans throughout due to the ongoing race row between his brother Anton and Chelsea’s Terry.

Desperate for a way back in to the game, Ferguson threw on Hernandez to bolster the attack, and shortly before the hour mark, United grabbed a lifeline.

Sturridge brought down Evra inside the Chelsea box, and it was third time lucky for the visitors as referee Webb pointed to the spot. Rooney crashed home the ensuing penalty in to the top right-hand corner to keep his side in the game.

With such an open game, chances were coming thick and fast. De Gea had to get down low to save from Florent Malouda, while Cech denied Rooney from the edge of the area after good link-up play between the England man and Hernandez.

But it was the champions who struck next, again from a Rooney penalty, after Welbeck was caught by the outstretched leg of Branislav Ivanovic following good work from Hernandez.

The Bridge had gone from rocking to rocky, and it almost got worse for the hosts when substitute Oriol Romeu gave the ball away in his own half, but Hernandez could only fire wide across goal after being played in by Ryan Giggs.

Torres was then gifted a golden opportunity as a simple ball bounced over Evans’ head, but the Spaniard dallied on the ball after driving goalwards and was eventually robbed by Valencia.

And with less than 10 minutes to go, Torres – and Chelsea – were left to rue that miss, as United’s famous comeback was completed.

Valencia and Welbeck combined well down the right. The former’s cross was gathered in by Rooney, whose shot was parried by Cech to Giggs before the Welsh veteran picked out Hernandez with a cross and the Mexican headed home the equaliser.

Chelsea could have stolen the three points at the death when Mata’s free-kick seemed destined for the top corner, but De Gea did brilliantly to turn the ball behind.

In the end, the sides had to settle for a point apiece from a match which will rightly go down in the annals of Premier League classics.

Mali send co-hosts Gabon packing out of the competition after beating them 5-4 on penalties in their quarter final clash on Sunday in Libreville.

The Malians came from behind to hold the Eagles to a 1-1 draw of the tie that failed to produce a winner after 120 minutes. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the star of the Gabonese team turned villain as he failed to score from the spot whilst veteran Seydou Keita netted the decisive kick as the Eagles soared into the last four of the tournament.

The Panthers were cruising to victory after Eric Mouloungui shot them into the lead on 55 minutes only for substitute Cheick Tidiane Diabate to draw level six minutes from time. It marked the first time since 2004 that Mali had reached the medal zone where they are due to face Cote d’Ivoire next Wednesday at the same venue.

Finally, boys have been seperated from the men as the African Nations Cup enters the crucila knock out round. On Sunday night, Gabon joined fellow co-hosts Equatorial Guinea in bidding farewell to the competition but it was a painful scene for the former who were five minutes away from playing at the last four of the tournament.

Mali will meet Cote d’Ivoire Wednesday in the semi-finals billed to hold in Libreville.

The tactically disciplined Malians never allowed the Gabonese to play their normal game keeping Aubameyang at bay in the opening minutes. The co-hosts managed to weave through the Malian defence by beating the offside traps.

On 28 minutes, Aubameyang was put through by Daniel Cousin, and he shot past Malian goalie Soumaila Diakite but his effort kissed the upright in what was the best chance of the first half.

The tempo of the game was at a constant in the second half and Gabon took the lead through Mouloungi who connected in from an Aubameyang cross. The Panthers remained in control whilst the Malians came into the picture gradually. Six minutes from time, Diabate stunned the crowd at the Stade de l’Amitie with the equalizer by firing in on the turn from close range.

The tie had to be decided on penalties after failing to produce a winner in extra time.

During penalties, Diabate, Mustapha Yatabare, Cedric Kante, Bakaye Traore and Keita scored for the Malians whilst Andre Biyogo, Bruno Mbanangoye, Mouloungi and Bruno Ecuele Manga found target for the Gabonese

Zambia coach Herve Renard has declared they are ready for any opponent after sealing their place at the semis of the 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations.

The Chipolopolos are the first team to reach the last four of the tournament after goals by Sunzu Stoppila, Christopher Katongo and James Chamanga aided them to a 3-0 win over Zambia in their quarter final clash on Saturday in Bata.

Zambia are due to face the winner of the Ghana-Tunisia quarter final clash at the semis and the Frenchman says “we are not afraid of any team.”

In a post-match interview, Renard described the feat as historic being the first time the Chipolopolos were reaching the medal zone since 1996.

“We expected a difficult match, having played Sudan a couple of times in the CECAFA tournament. We started very well but were sluggish in the second half, till a minute of magic by Rainford Kalaba gave birth to a penalty for the second goal.

“Our target was to reach the semi final for the first time since 1996. We learnt a lot in 2010 where we were not efficient. I think we were better this time,” Renard told the media flanked by his assistant Patrice Beaumelle and Davies Phiri.

The Zambian trainer explains that his team has come of age in terms of experience after missing out of the 2004 edition in Tunisia in recent times.

“Zambia only missed out in 2004 in recent times and have an advantage with players who have been together for a long time. We have no big names and the star is the team. Players like Emmanuel Mayuka, Katongo (Christopher) and Kalaba (Rainford) are often underrated because they are not playing in major leagues abroad, but they are very good players.”

With the Sudan hurdle cleared, the ever confident Renard said they are looking forward to playing at the grand finale.

Ghana Black Star, Sule Mutari says the quarter-finals pairing have proven that African football has come of age adding that it would be a very interesting two days of great soccer.

“This is a great weekend for Africa, everyone is looking forward to challenging matches. We’re here for the trophy and we know what to look out for, from this stage it’s no longer safe to relax. Teams now in this stage are tested if you consider what went on at the group stage, there were many surprises, there are no minnows in football again,” he said.

“I’m expecting surprises, but the cards are on Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Zambia and us(Ghana), but don’t underrate the two hosts, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Sudan are not very strong, but to rule out a sharp improvement because we all know what is at stake from now on.”

Zambia attcking midfielder Rainford Kabala added that they are in good form and want to go far in the championship:”So far, we are on course. Compared to Angola two years ago, we are better coordinated and organised. It has been difficult due to several challenges. However, we are determined to achieve our goal. Our target is to reach the semi final and we are working towards it.”

“We are looking forward to reaching the semi final. For 16-years, Zambian has not played at that level. We have been working towards it and are on course. I believe we have the experience and the players to achieve that target,” he assured.

The teams for the last eight challenge are Zambia vs. Sudan, Cote d’Ivoire vs. Equatorial Guinea, Gabon vs. Mali, Ghana vs. Tunisia.

The Ghana,Tunisia match on Sunday is tipped as the star match of the second day of quarter-finals’ encounter, while Ivory Coast versus Equatorial Guinea on Saturday is star game of the day too. However, pundits have not ruled out the strong contest between between Gabon and Mali.

Deposed Egyptian Football Association President Samir Zaher will contest the Prime Minister’s decision to dissolve the organisation.

Egyptian PM Kamal al-Ganzouri has ordered the FA board to disband in response to the fatal riots that followed Wednesday’s clash between Al-Masry and Al-Ahly.

The violence between sections of the Al-Masry and Al-Ahly support resulted in the deaths of at least 73 people.

An emergency meeting was called by the Egyptian parliament for Thursday morning, during which Al-Ganzouri announced the dismissal of Zaher and his entire senior staff.

The PM also revealed the governor of Port Said province and the region’s police chief have both resigned from their respective positions.

However, Zaher plans to challenge the Egyptian PM’s decision on the grounds government interference in football matters is prohibited by FIFA, meaning Egypt could now be prevented from competing in this year’s Olympic Games.

There have reportedly been accusations from eyewitnesses that riot police present at the ground made no attempt to stop Al-Masry fans as they moved to invade the pitch.

That view was backed up by Al-Ahly midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika, who claimed: “The security forces left us. They did not protect us. A fan just died in the dressing room in front of me.”

Al-Ahly coach Manuel Jose has sought to have his contract terminated during a meeting with club president Hassan Hamdi, while players Mohamed Barakat and Emad Meteb have vowed never to play for the team again.

The Egyptian FA’s final act before its dissolution was to indefinitely suspend the Premier League.

Flamengo president Patricia Amorim has confirmed that coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has been sacked.

Brazilian sources had already reported on Wednesday that the decision was imminent, but Amorim was quick to give the 59-year-old coach a vote of confidence, only to confirm his dismissal less than 24 hours later.

“We won the match (against Real Potosi) and Flamengo consolidated their Copa Libertadores project,” she told Globoesporte.

“Before the game, some news emerged. We had not signed any coach yesterday (Wednesday). Until today (Thursday), Luxemburgo was the coach.”

“I did not deny it (his sacking) in any way. It was a communication misunderstanding.”

“We spoke with Luxemburgo and we understood how difficult the atmosphere was. The conclusion from that meeting was to dismiss the coach.”

Luxemburgo is entitled to 1.3 million euros in compensation, but it is believed Flamengo are hoping to lower the severance package.

The Brazilian coach had been linked with the exit door at Flamengo in recent weeks as a result of his icy relationship with playmaker Ronaldinho.

Despite the player claiming that he would refuse to play for Flamengo if his overdue wages were not paid, the club decided to stand behind the former Barcelona man.

Flamengo finished fourth in the league standings, 10 points off champions Corinthians.

Guinea midfielder, Ibrahima Traore has attributed their inability to qualify for the Quarter-finals of the African Nations Cup to their 1-0 loss to Mali in their opening match.

Traore was speaking after Guinea played out a 1-1 draw with fellow West Africans and tournament co-favourites, Ghana in Franceville but the single point gained was not good enough to secure a quarter final berth.

Guinea who beat Botswana comprehensively needed to win and hope that Mali do not match their result but it wasn’t to be and the Syli Nationale missed out on a fourth successive quarter final place .

“We brought a young side to this tournament and we dominated in all three matches we played and were the better side but results have not gone our way. Ghana is a strong team but we dominated them tonight and they failed to beat us, that tells you we have a quality side It’s unfortunate that we lost to Mali in our first match and that ‘is where we derailed our objectives.

“It was really unfortunate that we lost that match when we were by far the better side but that’s football. We will learn the lessons from our failing to make the quarter finals and come back stronger. I believe in this generation of players and as for me it has been a dream come true to play in the finals of a competition l watched on television as a child. I hope to play in more final” said Traore

Ghana talisman, Andrea Ayew ’s brushed aside fears of an injury which saw him leave the field walking gingerly when he was substituted.

“ I am fine, it was nothing really “ he said. “ This tournament is a tough competition saw expectations that we would be hammering teams are off the mark. We have qualified for the quarter finals from a tough group but we made it and topped the group too.”

“We now focus on the challenge ahead and we still want to win the title and you will see that our play will show our commitment and determination to do that. Our games so far have been tough and we knew we would be facing up to tough teams but that’s why it is a tournament for the best 16 teams in Africa”

Meanwhile Ghana assistant coach James Kwasi Appiah admitted Ghana are still to pick after watching his side sail into the quarter finals on the back of a 1-1 draw with Guinea.

“We are through to the quarter finals that was our goal and we are pleased to have achieved it. We faced a very good Guinea side who gave us a hard game but we have a few things we noted that need us to improve on for the next game,” he said.

“The performance will improve with each game and we know quite a bit about Tunisia, having watched their games here as well as some of their previous matches so we will prepare thoroughly for the quarter final. There are no easy games ahead neither have there been any in the group stage so we just carry on taking one game at a time.”

FIFA president Sepp Blatter was shocked by the riots after the Egyptian Premier League match between Al-Masry and Al-Ahly.

More than 70 people were killed after thousands of Al-Masry supporters invaded the pitch to attack rival fans and players.

“I am very shocked and saddened to learn this evening that a large number of football supporters have died or been injured following a match in Port Said, Egypt,” Blatter said on FIFA’s website.

“My thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives this evening.”

“This is a black day for football. Such a catastrophic situation is unimaginable and should not happen.”

Egyptian FA president Samir Zaher said the league has been postponed indefinitely as a result of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ‘expressed shock’ at the events in Egypt, with president Issa Hayatou sending a message of condolence to the Egyptian FA.

“African football is in a state of mourning,” he said.

A minute’s silence will be held before this weekend’s quarter-final matches of the African Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Al-Ahly coach Manuel Jose could leave the club as a result of the violence.

Jose, who is in his second stint in charge of Al-Ahly, has guaranteed that his entire team is safe, but admitted he was a victim of Wednesday’s clashes.

“I am fine, when the game was over I could not return to the locker room because of all the mess,” he told SIC Noticias.

“I was kicked and punched, then I was taken outside the stadium. I saw several fans being given medical attention and many have died.”

“Some of them died inside our locker room, where they had run to. Everyone is fine from our team.”

Questioned about his future at the Egyptian champions, the Portuguese coach said: “Now I will have to think about my life. There are no conditions.”

Everton have signed Tottenham midfielder Steven Pienaar on loan till the end of the season.

<--more-->The South African international left Everton last year to join Spurs in a two million pounds deal but has struggled to break into the first team at White Hart Lane.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy were discussing the deal for most of the day and negotiations advanced following the completion of Tuesday’s Premier League games.

Pienaar has made just seven appearances for Harry Redknapp’s side this season, scoring once in the Europa League win against Shamrock Rovers.

Before his move last year the 29-year-old had become a fans’ favourite at Goodison Park after joining on loan from Borussia Dortmund in 2007 and then making his move permanent in 2008.

He played 130 times scoring 13 goals and will now look to add to his reputation among the Toffees fans in his second spell at the club.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have signed striker Patrick Bamford from Nottingham Forest for a fee which could rise to one million pounds.

Bamford, 18, has penned a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge despite having made just two first-team appearances for Forest and will join the Blues’ reserve squad.

Nottingham Forest released a statement revealing the details of the move.

A statement on the club’s official website said: “Bamford’s current Forest contract was due to expire this summer and despite being offered the most lucrative contract ever tabled by the Reds for a player of his age, his representatives had indicated he would not re-sign with the club.”

“He travelled south for talks earlier today after Forest agreed a fee with Chelsea, before completing the formalities of his switch to Stamford Bridge. The fee Forest have negotiated with Chelsea includes a sell-on clause.”

Bamford caught the eye of the Chelsea scouts when scoring a hat-trick against the Blues in a youth-team friendly.

He impressed further when netting five goals in an FA Youth Cup game against Wigan and a week later scored four against Southampton.

Black Stars of Ghana twin striker, Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew lit up day eight at the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday to push the Black Stars virtually through the door opening onto the knockout stage.

<--more-->Ayew, son of the African legend ‘Pele’ Ayew and the BBC Africa Footballer of the Year, and Gyan earned the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists a 2-0 win over Mali to leave them heading Group D on six points.

But the group will go down to the wire as any one of their three rivals, Guinea, Mali or even pointless Botswana, could still theoretically bag a last eight place.

The final throw of the dice for the Group D inmates comes on Wednesday with Ghana requiring just a draw from their encounter with Guinea in Franceville, with Mali heading off to the Gabonese capital Libreville to face Botswana.

Gyan, who faced a race against injury to be fit, got Ghana off the mark in the 63rd minute when he curled a free-kick past goalkeeper Soumbeyla Diakite.

Then he was instrumental in the second when his back-heel in the 76th minute set up Ayew who skilfully wrongfooted the Mali defence to unleash an unstoppable pile driver past Soumaila Diakite in the Mali goal.

“We had a few difficulties in the first half, but the boys showed strong character and we changed tactics and put pressure on them to make mistakes in the second half,” said Gyan.

The UAE-attached striker added: “This was a very important victory and we hope to continue to make Ghana proud.”

Mali skipper Cedric Kante said they have not given up hope of reaching the quarter-finals.

“We still have our destiny in our hands as it is now down to our last game against Botswana,” said the Greece-based centre half.

“We did not fight, we were not daring and we did not ask questions of the other team.”

Ghana’s win followed a record equalling performance by Guinea, who routed Botswana 6-1 in the first leg of the Group D double bill in Franceville.

Freescoring Guinea matched the record victory margin for a Nations Cup game and they are only the third team after Egypt in 1963 and Ivory Coast in 1970 to have scored six goals in a tournament match.

Goals from Sadio Diallo, who got a double, Abdoul Camara, Ibrahima Traore, Mamadou Bah and Naby Soumah earned Guinea the lopsided win against a side that had been reduced to 10-men when Patrick Motsepe was red carded in first half stoppage time.

Guinea defender Bobo Balde said: “We won 6-1 but football is never easy. No matter how many you goals score, you only get three points.”

Guinea coach Michel Dussuyer said it was crucial they won so as to get their campaign back on course.

“We needed to win because we don?t want to go back home. We were not lucky against Mali, but we were very satisfied we scored many goals in this game,” said the Frenchman.

“Botswana showed in their qualifiers they are a good team and so to score six goals against them was very satisfying for my team.”

Botswana coach Stanley Tshosane commented: “We must accept that Guinea were the better team, even though, three or four of the goals we let in were our own mistakes.

“We are sorry to our fans because we expected what our country expected.

“The better team won, we have been taught a football lesson and we have learnt.”

Monday’s programme moves across the border to Equatorial Guinea where the already qualified Cup co-hosts take on Zambia in Malabo and Libya face down and out Senegal in Bata.

Morocco suffered last minutes onslaught by rampaging Co-hosts Gabon strikers led by Cousin and saw their 2-1 lead barely eight minutes to end of game cancelled as a 98th-minute winner book ed a quarter-final place in Libreville on Friday.

<--more-->The free-kick from Bruno Zita Mbanangoye enabled Gabon to qualify from Group C with Tunisia. They meet in Franceville on Tuesday to decide top spot.

Houssine Kharja’s composed finish had set Morocco on their way after the north Africans had dominated in the first half. A quick-fire comeback followed as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang volleyed in a sumptuous strike before Daniel Cousin looked to have sealed a quarter-final berth in the 79th minute.

Charly Moussono’s handball in the penalty area saw Kharja convert the spot-kick for his second and potentially keep the north Africans in the tournament.

But the final twist saw substitute Mbanangoye strike in a wonderful free-kick to seal the most dramatic of wins.

Favourites Morocco join Senegal in being eliminated by unfancied co-hosts, and Eric Gerets’ man look forward to a dead-rubber against Niger.

In the earlier match, another late strike, this time from Issam Jemaa, saw Tunisia grab a vital 2-1 win over Niger.

The north Africans enjoyed a dream start to their match when Youssef Msakni slipped in from the left side, dribbling past the entire defence before slotting in the first goal on four minutes.

Zouhaier Dhaouadi then had an opportunity to double the lead but his long distance effort missed the target.

Just as Tunisia were beginning to take control of the encounter, Niger scored against the run of play when Moussa Maazou used his hand to interfere with Tunisian goalkeeper Aymen Mathlouthi, resulting in a William Tonji Ngounou header drifting into the net.

The equaliser clearly unsettled the Tunisian players who struggled to get back into the match while Niger grew in confidence and had multiple opportunities to take the lead.

Looking for attacking solutions, Tunisia manager Sami Trabelsi replaced Amine Chermiti and Dhaouadi with Jemaa and Oussama Darragi to start the final 45 minutes.

Despite the changes the threats were mainly coming from a familiar source in the shape of Msakni.

On 63 minutes, Aymen Abdennour broke forward from central defence and rolled a left-footed shot onto Niger custodian Daouda Kassaly’s post.

With the game edging towards a stalemate, Tunisian all-time leading scorer Jemaa was on hand to score the winner on 90 minutes.

Cote d’Ivoire became the second team to berth in the Quarter-finals of the African Nations Cup after beating Burkina Faso 2-0 to earn six points from two matches in a pulsating second group game Thursday night.

The Ivorian first goal came in the 16th minute when Didier Drogba curving cross into the six yard box was missed by an onrushing Burkinabe defender, only for Yaya Toure to side step it towards Salomon Kaloun’s direction, who powered it beyond the Stallion keeper for the opener.

The goal instead bolstered Burkina Faso resolve to take the match as they pumped more players into the attack searching for the equalizer, top striker Traore tried to outsmart the Ivorain defence on many occasions for the leveler without success.

Efforts by both teams to score again in the first half were fruitless, but the Ivorian keeper pulled off fantastic saves to the delight of their fans, until a Burkinabe defender,Barkley Kone headed home an own goal on 82 minutes to guarantee Cote d’Ivoire the victory which was still shaky until the second strike.

The Ivorian now top the group with six points followed by Angola which had earlier battled to a 2-2 draw with Sudan with four points. Sudan have a point with Burkina Faso backing the rear with no point having lost their two games played.

The ban means Mazzarri will be in the stands for both legs of Napoli’s Champions League round of 16 tie against Chelsea on February 21 and March 14.

The 50-year-old coach was sent off during Napoli’s 2-0 victory against Villarreal in December for protesting at the Spanish side’s time-wasting by pushing Nilmar off the ball.

In addition to the suspension, Mazzarri has also been fined 3,000 euros for his actions.

“We will present our appeal next week – our goal is to at least reduce the ban by one match,” Napoli lawyer Mattia Grassani told Radio Gol.

“We want to prove that what Walter did was minimal since there was no aggression. Our biggest goal is to transform the suspension into a fine.”

Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has admitted to insulting the referee in the wake of his side’s Copa del Rey exit at the hands of Barcelona.

Fernando Teixeira controversially chalked off a Sergio Ramos goal, and went on to dismiss the former Sevilla defender with a second yellow card in the dying moments of the game.

As the game concluded, Casillas approached Teixeira and said: “Texeira, now you can go out and party with Barca!”

Speaking in the wake of the match, the 30-year-old attributed the insult to the passion the clashes between the two sides stir up.

“It was in the heat of the moment. You feel powerless when he looks the other way. I even got a yellow card when I tried to separate the players (during a first-half scrap),” Casillas said.

Despite the defeat, the Spain captain said that he was proud of his team-mates after they came back from a two-goal deficit.

“Madrid can be proud of its team. Now we have two competitions ahead,” he said.
